While Timberline is a licensed trademark of the GAF Corporation, the name has become almost synonymous with the laminated shingle industry. Every asphalt shingle manufacturer has their version of this standard shingle. But in the past few years, the asphalt shingle manufacturers have decided to diversify and are now offering a wide range of products, made basically out of the same materials, but in a much wider array of shapes and styles, not to mention colors.

While this type of roofing product selection is expanding, so too are the life expectancies of the various asphalt shingles. Warranty durations have extended into the 40, 50, and even “Lifetime” arenas. One can even purchase certified hail resistant shingles today that are recognized as such by many of the leading home owners insurance providers.
